New book THE SHU: THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING shows the reader '"how to live a good life," says the author.
PRLog - Apr. 23, 2014 - TUCSON, Ariz. -- Author Thomax Green has produced a compelling new book so cosmic in its scope that it has the power to change readers' lives. THE SHU: THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING is a “modern-day Gnostic work which blends all faiths and sciences into a super belief,” Green says. “With this belief system, you can be a faithful individual without the restrictions and classifications that are imposed by religious groups. In short, it is the way to freedom and happiness.”

Green notes that THE SHU:  THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING resulted from a traumatic experience in his life that led to his falling into a coma for seven days. When he came out of the coma and found himself still intact, he (says that it) “switched my mentality from thinking about the past to thinking about what I could do to make a better future.”

Green further explains that “The Shu” translates as “the root” and that Gnosticism is a branch of early Christianity based in mystical knowledge. The Gnostics believed that there is good in all systems of thinking. The sect was persecuted because of their beliefs, and people who owned their writings were forced to burn the manuscripts, with the threat of going to hell if they did not. Gnostic philosophy ultimately vanished from the earth, until a cache of Gnostic scrolls was recently discovered in the Egyptian desert.

Green's stylistic model for THE SHU: THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING is the TAO TE CHING, a collection of teachings compiled in the fourth century B.C. and attributed to the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu. Written in short, poetic observations, the TAO TE CHING comprises a treatise on personal conduct that is moral rather than mystical in tone. The book became the basis for the establishment of the belief system known as Taoism.

In the 81 one-page chapters of THE SHU: THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING – some entries are less than a full page long – Green makes pithy philosophical observations and  reflects on earthly and celestial matters in plain-spoken but richly metaphoric language. Chapter 4, for example, reads, in its entirety:

The Way is like an empty bowl:

Drunk from but never without water.

         It fills itself.

It is bottomless: Its depths never completely perceived.

All infinity is encompassed within it.

It is a substanceless reflection that goes on forever and is older than

         cosmic intellect.

“I want people to come away with the truth, the simple truth as it has never been told before,” Green says. “I want this book to burn away the divisions that keep us apart. Love is a powerful thing.”

Green plans to donate 50 percent of the royalties from THE SHU: THE GNOSTIC TAO TE CHING to UNICEF, “to help children in need,” he notes. “I don't know of another book that gives so much to those who require help.”
