Orland Park-based Lisa Thomas salon has helped raise $2,000 for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition during a recent annual fundraiser.
PRLog - Aug. 12, 2014 - ORLAND PARK, Ill. -- Lisa Thomas Salon raised $2,000 for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) during their six week promotion to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
From May 27 to July 12, Lisa Thomas Salon sold a styling product for just $2 with a purchase of shampoo and conditioner. The $2 from the styling product went directly to the NOCC.
Mandi Hynes, Director of Marketing/Inventory for Lisa Thomas, said they have been holding this promotion for the past five years.
“We’re motivated to raise money for ovarian cancer because we have many employees who in some way have been affected by this disease,” she said. “Our industry is a predominately female industry and we like to create awareness to help all women.”
According to ovarian.org, more than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease.
The NOCC’s mission is to save lives by fighting tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer, and to improve the quality of life for survivors.
There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer. By raising money each year, Lisa Thomas Salon is helping the NOCC provide resources to assist newly diagnosed patients, hope to survivors, support to caregivers and awareness of early symptoms of ovarian cancer.
The salon raises money for ovarian and breast cancer twice a year. Their goal each time is to reach at least $1,500.
