Barnes & Noble Announces Free December Storytime Lineup

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced its December lineup of free Storytime events for children and families, all designed to celebrate the joy of reading, creativity and fun.

The month kicks off with the Grinch Day Storytime on Monday, December 1, at 4 p.m. when Barnes & Noble customers are invited to celebrate everyone’s favorite beloved green curmudgeon from the Dr. Seuss classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Since its debut in 1957, Dr. Seuss’ book has been a perennial favorite of children and adults alike. The story will also be enjoyed on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 NOOK®.

Grinch Day also launches the “25 Days of Grinch-mas,” a campaign encouraging children to “grow their hearts three sizes” by doing good deeds throughout the holidays. Booksellers will provide children with a “Good Deed Tracker Booklet” for each child to record their completed good deeds done during Grinch-mas. Children and their parents can also send in three of their good deeds using a “Good Deeds” postcard and mail it to the Grinch himself at Random House Children’s Books. For each postcard received, Random House Children’s Books will donate a new book to a child in need through First Book. The Grinch Day festivities will also include fun Grinch-themed activities and treats.

Hanukah Storytime – Between December 1 and December 24, Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host a Hanukah Storytime featuring Honeyky Hanukah by Woody Guthrie, a new picture book story about a young boy and his dog gathering up family and friends to celebrate the holiday. The event will focus on Hanukah traditions and celebrations. Participants will also enjoy crafts and activities. Customers should contact their local store for information on date and time.

Polar Express Storytime – On Friday, December 5, at 7 p.m., Barnes & Noble stores will ring in the holiday season with a free Storytime featuring a reading of author Chris Van Allsburg’s heartwarming tale, The Polar Express. Children are invited to join this traditional Barnes & Noble event and come in their pajamas to hear a reading of the holiday classic. Attendees will enjoy activities and treats.

The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition Storytime – On Friday, December 12, at 7 p.m.,

Barnes & Noble stores will host a special holiday Storytime featuring The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition. Children will enjoy a reading of the book, a scavenger hunt and activities. At this event, customers can also discover the new Elf Pets: A Reindeer Tradition. Just in time for Christmas, this new story allows children to bring home a little extra magic by adopting a new reindeer friend. Already a best friend to the scout elves, this snuggly reindeer is sure to be a hit with children and families. Each reindeer pet wears a heart charm around its neck that fills with Christmas magic each time a child hugs, talks or plays with it. On Christmas Eve that full heart helps Santa’s sleigh fly. Participants can also enjoy a NOOK Book® Read to Me® version of The Elf on the Shelf at the event.

Holiday Classics Storytime – On Friday, December 19, at 7 p.m., Barnes & Noble stores will host a special Storytime night featuring some holiday favorites. Featured titles include Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and The Night Before Christmas. Wearing PJs is encouraged! Activities and free Rudolph red noses to wear home will round out the fun.

During all the Barnes & Noble Storytime events, customers are encouraged to take photographs and share them on their social media venues using the hashtag #BNStorytime. Additionally, the Barnes & Noble Café will offer Storytime attendees a Tall Hot Chocolate for only $1.

Barnes & Noble Storytimes are free and open to the public. Customers should visit the Barnes & Noble Store Locator for specific dates/times of events at their local store.
