Fayetteville Hyperbarics has been on a mission for years. It began with the quest for a cure to a family illness and continues with healing the physical and mental injuries of American service men and women. With that in mind, it is both serendipitous and fitting that their latest partnership comes to fruition.
Mission 22 is a national non-profit organization which has the charter of stemming the tide of suicides among our military. Together with Fayetteville Hyperbarics they will advance a platform of support and awareness called Veterans Rehab Project which will help reduce the number of suicides occurring daily (22 per day on average).
One of the additional goals of Veterans Rehab Project is to raise money to assist soldiers who have exhausted time and resources on ineffective treatments. That will also include personnel who have been caught in the Veterans Administration bureaucratic nightmare.
Fayetteville Hyperbarics has been a local pioneer of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT), which is a non-invasive method of creating an environment of 100% pure oxygen under pressure. In this atmosphere, the oxygen will infuse injured areas where accelerated healing can take place.
Over 50 soldiers have been treated locally with a great deal of success. Veterans Rehab Project is geared to substantially increase that number. Fayetteville Hyperbarics is following the lead of other clinics across the country, which have treated over 350 soldiers, by adding more collaborative treatment modalities such as Medical Massage, Counseling and physical training. These techniques have increased the success rate for those receiving care.
Denise Mercado, CEO of Fayetteville Hyperbarics, is looking forward to helping as many military personnel as she can, “We have worked hard to support our Veterans in the local area. Our new partnership with Mission 22 will allow us to reach more Veterans in need of effective treatment for TBI, PTSD, and other combat related injuries.”
Because Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be both physical and mental in nature, providers who blend their professional interests broaden the scope of treatment which affects these areas.

I’m proud to be a part of helping gather support for those whose service has resulted in visible and not so visible injuries. A vigorous military career with concussions, TBI and PTSD seems to be the rule rather than the exception. The philosophy at Fayetteville Hyperbarics and Mission 22 is that anything and everything that can be done to help our Veterans, should be done.
In effect, the partnership would allow more successes resembling that of Michael Rodriquez. Michael is a Green Beret Veteran whose most traumatic brain injury came from an I.E.D incident but has suffered with many other head injuries.
He tells his story this way, “I’ve had a military career of brain injuries resulting in balance problems, tremors, sensitivity to light, headaches, and sleeplessness. Since starting Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatments, I have noticed that I do not spill as much. My tremors are better. I haven’t fallen since treatments began. I feel better and I have more energy.”
