Higher open on upbeat earnings

The markets opened higher with the Dow rising 7 points to 22,564 on upbeat earnings news. Nasdaq gained 7 points to 6,523.


On the upside


Lennar (NYSE: LEN) reported higher third quarter earnings and revenue that topped analyst estimates.


First quarter earnings and revenue for Paychex (Nasdaq: PAYX) rose to surpass expectations.


Advanced Micro Devices (Nasdaq: AMD) introduced its new AMD Embedded Radeon E9170 Series graphic processing unit.

On the downside


Production of Tesla's (Nasdaq: TSLA) Model 3 mass market sedan fell far short of expectations.


Urban Outfitters (Nasdaq: URBN) settled a trademark infringement suit filed against the company by Coachella.

Motley Fool noted that most of Cameco's (NYSE: CCJ) contracts expire in 2021.


In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 6 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 9 to 8 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 added a point to 2,530. Bitcoin plunged $126 to $4,245.
