Baseline Consulting, one of the industry's premier IT services firms, announced today that its client JEA, Florida’s largest municipal utility and the nation’s eleventh largest, has won The Data Warehousing Institute’s prestigious best practice award in the “BI/DW on a Limited Budget” category.
JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in the United States, providing electric, water, and sewer service to more than 875,000 accounts in northeast Florida. JEA uses its data warehouse for strategic and operational reporting on automated meter reading data as well as location and customer information. These analytics have helped the company not only improve its operations—it can monitor transformer usage in order to optimize loads—but better serve its customers. “Our data warehouse has given us the opportunity to look at our usage patterns at a lower level of granularity,” says L. Faye Chatman, Director of Enterprise Business Intelligence at JEA. “We’d had monthly consumption data on our customers, but now we have more current information about how our customers are using energy. This allows us to offer them better service packages and respond to their requests more quickly. So our data warehouse is helping us help our customers.”
