Los Angeles magazine honors actor Eva Longoria and nine other compelling female leaders of Philanthropy, Advocacy and Business for their contributions to the city of Los Angeles.
PRLog - Sep. 15, 2014 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- TOMORROW, SEPTEMBER 16, Los Angeles magazine will honor 10 strong, smart and inspiring women who are leaders, innovators and game changers in the city of Los Angeles. This year’s list leads with actor/director/producer Eva Longoria and recognizes her for outstanding work as an activist, advocate and filmmaker.

LA Woman is the brainchild of Los Angeles magazine and debunks the image of the Los Angeles (LA) woman portrayed in the media. The LA Woman is a woman dedicated to the local community and committed to civic responsibility; she also creates opportunities for others as well as herself. This year’s honorees are the embodiment of enlightenment, edification and empowerment and use their skills and passions to favorably impact the lives of citizens of LA and, in some cases, citizens across the country. They make LA a better place to live.

This honor bestowed upon Ms. Longoria is well deserved. A recent graduate with a Master’s in Chicano studies and political science, her mission is to help raise monies to ready teenage Latinas for college, to guide female entrepreneurs to gain access to capital, and to enhance lives of persons with special needs.

Additional 2014 honorees include: Roberta Diaz Brinton, M.D., selected by committee and named “Woman of the Year,” an Alzheimer’s Researcher and a USC professor of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical engineering and neurology; Ivory Freeman, a deputy probation officer and the Founder of The Bessie Morris Foundation; Rebecca Ninburg, the Co-Founder of the Los Angeles Derby Dolls, a volunteer Roller Derby league; Tara Roth, the President of Goldhirsh Foundation; Kathleen Kim, a Loyola Law School professor and a member of the Los Angeles Police Commission; Adele Yellin, the Owner of the Grand Central Market; Shamim Momin, Founder of Los Angeles Nomadic Division; Susan Feniger, the Food Pioneer and restaurateur; Lorri L. Jean, CEO of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center; Paige Adams-Geller, Founder and Creative Director of Paige Denim.
