Frank Cities Announces The Launch Of A New, Multi-format Annual Arts Subscription Inaugural Issue To Debut In December, 2014
PRLog - Sep. 30, 2014 - LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Frank Cities Founder and President Alison Miller announced details today regarding the debut of Frank LA, an exclusive three-times yearly, limited edition multi-format art publication. Exploring topics singularly unique to the city of Los Angeles, Frank LA will collaborate with exceptional local artists exploring candid city themes in an environment unconstrained by advertising. Tackling a single topic each issue, volumes will be presented in both print and object based formats, and will be offered to subscribers at $975 per year.
Intended as collector’s items with a circulation of only 2000 coveted copies per issue, volumes will explore thought provoking themes ranging from social issues to the witty and absurd. “Our name really tells the story. It’s about having a frank conversation, one in which we blow the doors off taboo subjects and discuss topics others either won’t or can’t. At the same time, we don’t take ourselves too seriously and are a bit tongue in cheek with our editorial approach", stated Ms.Miller. Co-founder Patrick Gill added "We share a passion for art, fine photography and an unwavering respect for design. Those principals are seen throughout and represent our core DNA”.
In its debut issue titled “No Place Like Home”, Frank LA shines a light on the dichotomy between homelessness and wealth and the vast chasm of life that’s unfolding in one of America’s greatest cities. A mere 9.5 miles from each other lies the city’s wealthiest area and its most destitute section–Skid Row. Issue No. 001 was curated by an esteemed council including LAXART founder Lauri Firstenberg, Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) founder Shamim Momin, art critic/founder of Coagula Curatorial Journal & Gallery Mat Gleason, and independent writer/curator and founder of the art blog Another Righteous Transfer, Carol Cheh. Foreword was written by Anne Ellegood, Senior Curator at the Hammer Museum.
Fourteen Los Angeles based visual artists collaborated on the debut issue by creating original works of art to express their individual perspectives on this widely debated disparity. Abel Alejandre, Edgar Arcenaux, Mattia Biagi, Ruben Esparza, Michelle Carla Handel, Dwyer Kilcollin, the artists of LAMP Community, Mimi Lauter, Lipschutz & Lipschutz, Danial Nord, Ry Rocklen, Anna Sew Hoy, Cole Sternberg and Jay Stuckey each contributed sculptures, which will be auctioned to benefit LAMP Community, a non-profit organization in Skid Row providing housing, wellness and advocacy for those experiencing homelessness. Contributing photographers included Bode Helm and TOMO.
Annual subscriptions beginning with Issue No. 001 are available for sale online at www.frankcities.com. The format for the first edition is a sequentially numbered set of 36, 12” x 16” art prints encased in a linen box. Ten special deluxe editions which feature name recognition in all year one issues, additional prints not available with standard subscriptions, and a guaranteed low numbered set are available at $5,000 each.
