Westchester Actors Get An Exciting Opportunity Off-Broadway!
PRLog - July 9, 2015 - NEW YORK -- A Westchester playwright and Theater Director at Bennett Academy of the Performing Arts, Andrea Bennett, is holding auditions for her original Off-Broadway quirky murder mystery comedy What She Deserves. To celebrate Bennett Academy’s upcoming 20th anniversary Ms. Bennett, is opening the doors for talented Westchester kids to get the same opportunity as its students. The play is set to premiere in November 2015 in NYC and will feature a cast of kids ages 8 to 16. Some of the top Broadway actors and actresses such as Evy Ortiz will volunteer their time, to help with auditioning these aspiring young singers, and musicians. Children who can perform Vaudeville acts of early 1900s and speak with a British accent is a plus. Auditions will be by appointment only and will be held from Monday, July 13th to Monday, August 17th, weekdays; between the hours of 1-7pm at Bennett Academy of the Performing Art’s New Rochelle location (225A Main Street). Kids who enjoy behind-the-scenes tech work are also invited to meet with the director. In 1999, Bennett started the Junior Thespians Acting Troupe for youth that want the chance to perform in professional theater productions. Accepted actors will earn membership to the Junior Thespians Acting Troupe and will be given the opportunity to enjoy the many career enhancing amenities that come with membership.

The Academy’s founder, Ms. Bennett explains, “It’s great to get fresh talent from the local area. Many times playwrights hold auditions in New York City, when there are so many talented children right here in Westchester.” Parents are also amazed at what their children have learned through past Bennett Academy productions. One mother, Mrs. Harewood states, “It was a new experience as I took one child to rehearsal and ended up with two of them wanting to act, but it was worthwhile seeing my sons on a professional stage". Aaron(18) a student of Bennett Academy since he was 7, relates that performing in “Off-Broadway shows really opened up my horizons.” Calling the performance a “wonderful experience.” Academy drum student and Thespian member, Pearson, exclaims, “I met new people and learned alot about being professional. I had a fun time and I want to do more shows.” In discussing the work of the Academy, 18 year old singer and student of Bennett Academy, Dymond Crews explains, “...Bennett Academy plays are moving because they are so witty, fun and relatable. I plan to continue to be a part of this rapidly growing academy.”

The Academy has been dedicated to building the future’s best performing artists for almost 20 years. Offering private and group instruction in film, theater, and music, Bennett Academy gives aspiring young artists the opportunity to develop their skill and excel in professional performance. Students of Bennett Academy have worked on Broadway, films, and national commercials, and have enjoyed huge success in the music industry.
