Priority Health Plans Earn Top Ratings Nationally

In health care, quality means lower costs through prevention, early detection and evidence based medicine. Today, Priority Health announced it ranks among the top performers in national ratings from the National Committee for Quality Assurance for its Medicaid, Medicare and Commercial health plans. The company’s Medicaid plan was one of only 11 plans nationwide to receive a 4.5 (out of 5) or higher rating from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).1 Priority Health Medicaid scored the highest in Michigan in prevention and treatment measures.

The NCQA also recognized Priority Health’s Medicare HMO and Medicare PPO plans with high ratings (4.5 for HMO and 4 for PPO). Each plan is one of only three Michigan Medicare plans to receive such high marks.2 The Priority Health Commercial HMO received the highest rating (4.5 out of 5) of any Michigan plan in this category.3

“A high rating from the NCQA demonstrates our commitment to ensuring our nearly one million members across Michigan receive high quality care and service,” said Joan Budden, president and CEO for Priority Health.

The NCQA compared the quality and services of more than 1,000 health insurance plans in the United States. Ratings help provide consumers with a practical and meaningful guide to choosing the best plans. This year, the NCQA focused on customer satisfaction, prevention and treatment. Ratings are weighted on a 0 to 5-point scale; scores above 4 indicate what the NCQA calls “higher performance.”

“Transforming our health care system requires a concerted effort to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs,” said Budden. “I’m proud of the consistent effort made by our teams at Priority Health to do just that – helping ensure our members get the right care, at the right time, in the right place, and at a cost they can afford.”
