Ms. Rufener, a native of Dover, Ohio, is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in architecture and plans to obtain her Masters in order to further specialize in this field. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dover High School. During high school she served as second chair trumpet player in the school’s symphonic orchestra and traveled to seven different European countries to play. While her parents have been helping to pay for her freshman year and she has saved money from a summer job, Ms. Rufener was cognizant of the fact that she might have to take out student loans to support her long-term academic goals.

Ms. Rufener chose Kent State University because she felt instantly at home on campus, the college has an excellent architecture program and because they offered her the most scholarships. “Tuition played a huge role in my college decision,” said Ms. Rufener. “I wanted to leave college financially stable.”

“My mother read about the NFAW sweepstakes online and while we figured it was a long-shot, we felt you should never count yourself out, even though a lot of people will be trying to win,” Ms. Rufener said. “However, winning feels surreal. It removes so much of the stress I’ve been feeling about having to think about taking on costly loans. I am very grateful and excited about the future.”

“National Financial Advisor Week fully recognizes the financial burden a four-year education can impose upon students and their families. By paying for Jennifer’s full tuition, room and board, and books at Kent State University, she will now be able to fully explore her education without feeling a financial burden,” said Nick Stuller, CEO of AdviceIQ and founding sponsor of NFAW. “Our goal is to provide the foundation and a model for long-term financial health.”

Ms. Rufener was announced as the winner during the first annual National Financial Advisor Week on Thursday, September 18 at the Times Square Plaza, New York City at 4:00pm EDT.
