The Hot Stock: Applied Materials Jumps 4.5%

Applied Materials ( AMAT ) rose to the top of the S&P 500 today as semiconductor stocks rebounded from yesterday's selloff . Applied Materials gained 4.5% to $31.44 today, while the S&P 500 was little changed at 2,191.95. The SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF ( XSD ) rose 1% to $52.80, while the VanEck Vectors Semiconductor ETF ( SMH ) climbed 1.6% to $68.77. My colleague Tiernan Rey at Barron's Tech Trader Daily quoted B.
