The markets closed mixed with the Dow losing 25 points to 11,697 as more people filed unemployment claims last week. Nasdaq rose 7 points to 2709.
On the upside
Nvidia's (Nasdaq: NVDA) Tegra 2 mobile superchip will power tablets and smartphones to run on high speed 4G networks.
Moody's (NYSE: MCO) lifted its fourth quarter earnings and revenue outlook.
RBC Capital Markets upgraded Elan (NYSE: ELN) to a Sector Perform rating.
On the downside
Qiao Xing Universal Resources (Nasdaq: XING) announced that it will exchange 1.9 shares of its common stock for each outstanding share of its subsidiary Qiao Xing Mobile (NYSE: QXM) in order to take Qiao Xing Mobile private.
Net subscriber additions in the fourth quarter dropped 6% for MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS).
Same store holiday sales for GameStop (NYSE: GME) rose by a smaller than expected 3.4%.
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by 9 to 7 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks slipped 3 points to 791.
