U.S. stocks gain as Pfizer boosts Dow

U.S. stocks advanced modestly on Tuesday, helped at the margin by earnings from Pfizer Inc. and some delayed economic reports, but investors avoided big bets ahead of the Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting.
