Markets Soar Over Yellen's Rate Comment

Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen's comments that interest rates will remain low for some time sent the markets soaring during the midday with the Dow jumping 136 points to 16,459. Nasdaq leaped 50 points to 4206.

On the upside

Shares of Energous (Nasdaq: WATT) continued soaring.

American Capital (Nasdaq: ACAS) bought 8.9 million shares of its common stock during the first quarter.

Fourth quarter earnings surged for Cleantech Solutions (Nasdaq: CLNT) as revenue climbed.

On the downside


Shares of Momenta Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: MNTA) fell after the Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal by Teva (NYSE: TEVA). Depending on the ruling of the Supreme Court, Momenta may have to delay release of a generic version of Teva's multiple sclerosis treatment Copaxone.

A Seeking Alpha contributor wrote that Whiting USA (NYSE: WHX) would drop to $0 within the year.

Clean Diesel Technologies (Nasdaq: CDTI) disappointed with a much larger than expected loss for the fourth quarter.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 3 to 1 on the NYSE and by nearly 4 to 1 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 soared 15 points to 1873. Bitcoin slipped $2.60 or 0.56% to $464.37.
