Following a car accident in October of 2013 which caused Stephanie Klaiber’s husband to suffer serious, irreversible brain injuries, she and his family decided to honor Martin’s wishes to be an organ and tissue donor. This priceless sacrifice on the part of Martin Klaiber saved six lives, including two 3-day old infant girls. In celebration of Martin’s life and continuing his legacy as an organ and tissue donor who gave others a second chance at life, Stephanie and close friends from the golfing community have organized a charitable golf event.
The First Annual Martin Klaiber Memorial Golf Tournament will take place on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the River Creek Club in Leesburg, VA. The proceeds from the golf tournament will benefit three organizations whose work impacts our local community on a daily basis: Washington Regional Transplant Community; Loudoun First Responders Foundation; and Tails of Hope.
The Washington Regional Transplant Community (http://www.beadonor.org) a 501 (3c) organization, is the federally designated Organ Procurement Organization for the metropolitan Washington area whose mission is to recover organs and tissues by preserving every donation option, excelling in recovery and placement of these gifts and providing care for donors and their families. Their vision is to heal communities through organ and tissue donation. The commitment to their core values of Compassion, Honor, Diversity, Leadership, Stewardship and Trust are exemplified daily.
The Loudoun First Responders Foundation (LFRF, http://www.loudounfrf.org/) mission is to financially support any Loudoun County public safety officer (and their family) facing needs arising from injury, illness, and conditions incurred in the line of duty. LFRF raises private donations, seeking to create and strengthen innovative partnerships between organizations, individuals and corporate neighbors in our community. Donations may also be used to support educational needs for the children of the sheriff, fire, rescue and police organizations in our community.
Tails of Hope (http://www.tails-of-hope.org/) is a network of foster care providers for pets, who raise awareness about important pet health issues including responsible pet training, nutrition, spaying and neutering. Tails of Hope rescues dogs scheduled for euthanasia and places them in nurturing homes. This dedication to improving the lives of pets in MD, PA and VA has made an immense difference in these communities.
The First Annual Martin Klaiber Memorial Golf Tournament will help many families in our area, but needs support and commitment from our community.
