Capella University Launches School of Nursing and Health Sciences

Capella University announced today that it will launch a new School of Nursing and Health Sciences in January 2015, further demonstrating its commitment to providing competency-based advanced education in nursing and health care. Capella University is a regionally accredited online university* that offers online degree programs designed to help working adults advance in their careers.

The new school will offer the existing doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s online degrees and certificates in Nursing, Health Care Administration, and Public Health, including its CCNE-accredited** Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Other degree programs moving to the new school include Capella’s Master of Public Health (MPH), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), Master of Health Administration (MHA), Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) and many health care-related specializations and concentrations, such as Health Care Leadership, Epidemiology, Health Care Operations, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Nursing Leadership and Administration.

The nursing and health care programs were previously housed in Capella’s School of Public Service Leadership, which has been restructured to focus on master’s and doctoral degrees and certificates in Human Services, Public Administration, and Public Safety, along with many public service-related specializations and concentrations, including Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Fire Services, Forensics, Homeland Security, Social and Community Services, Nonprofit Management, Public Policy and Collaborative Governance.

“As the breadth and depth of our offerings in nursing, health care, and public service increased, we felt our learners and our programs would be best served by dividing these offerings into two distinct schools,” said Scott Kinney, president of Capella University. “As with all Capella schools and programs, the Nursing and Health Sciences and Public Service Leadership schools remain committed to finding the most direct path for learners to achieve their personal and career goals through professionally aligned, engaging, on-line experiences that have immediate and applicable value to one’s career. The sharpened focus of these two schools will strengthen our ability to work with learners to achieve their goals.”
