Constellation Announces 88 Community Champions Grant Recipients in 12 States and the District of Columbia

Constellation today named 88 new grant recipients through its Community Champions program, donating more than $40,000 to community organizations focused on education, youth development and environmental projects. Constellation’s Community Champions allows residential electricity and natural gas supply customers to nominate a local project or cause for grant funding. The next deadline for grant submissions is May 15, 2015.

“Constellation is proud to support our residential customers’ efforts to support their communities,” said Bruce Stewart, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Constellation. “Since the program’s launch in 2013, Constellation’s Community Champions program has awarded over $100,000 in funding to nearly 220 projects nominated by our residential electricity and natural gas customers. We’re excited to expand the program to our residential customers across all the states we serve.”

Constellation customer Meredith Donovan will use her $500 Community Champions grant to teach children about issues ranging from hunger and homelessness to the environment and recycling through hands-on AmeriCorps Service Learning Projects with Communities in Schools of the Heart of Texas.

“Students in our program learn that no matter how small they are, they can still make a difference in the community,” Donovan said. “Constellation’s grant provides the necessary materials and support for students to put service learning projects into action.”

Constellation customer Scott Stewart of Parkville, Maryland will use his $500 Community Champions grant to support the Baltimore Saints of the American Special Hockey Association.

“We have over 100 special needs participants in our program, including players with autism, Downs Syndrome, muscular dystrophy, and individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries,” Stewart said. “Because our organization is 100% volunteer, Constellation’s grant will go directly to support our mission of building self-esteem for players while achieving skating and hockey skills in a team-building environment.”

Constellation customer Doug King used his $250 Community Champions grant to fund prizes for the top two teams at the 67th annual Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair held March 10-14 at Quinnipiac University.

“This annual fair is a strong contributor to the vitality of STEM education in Connecticut schools,” King said. “Constellation’s grant allowed us to provide extra recognition for the most challenging, highest quality projects, both of which addressed issues critical to the future of the energy industry.”
