By: PRLog
DALLAS - Sept. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Judge Staci Williams, presiding Judge of the 101st District Court announces the launch of her free, non-partisan, judicial outreach program, the Citizens’ Civil Academy. The purpose of the Citizens’ Civil Academy is to teach citizens about the civil court process and the inner workings of the George L. Allen, Sr., Courts Building in Dallas, Texas.

Judge Williams notes, “People know about the criminal process… they see on the news daily cases involving murder, assault, drugs and animal cruelty but very few can tell you about the civil court process, the types of cases we hear or even where the George L. Allen, Sr., Courts Building is located.”

In Dallas County, a civil district court may hear cases involving motor vehicle accidents, personal injury, property damage, wrongful death, workers’ compensation, tax disputes, eminent domain and condemnation, contracts, and business disputes.

At the Citizens' Civil Academy, citizens will:

·     learn what happens to case from the time it is filed until the time it is disposed;

·     analyze types of cases heard by civil district judges;

·     explore departments of George L. Allen, Sr., Courthouse;

·     understand Jury Duty, and

·     earn prizes while playing Court Bingo.

Classes for the Citizens’ Civil Academy will be held on 3-consecutive Tuesday evenings, beginning Tuesday, September 29, October 6 and concluding on October 13, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the George Allen, Sr., Courts Building, 600 Commerce Street, Dallas, TX 75202.
