Michael J. Betts Joins Post & Schell’s Commercial Litigation Practice; Expands Firm’s Presence in Pittsburgh Region

Post & Schell, P.C. is pleased to announce that Michael J. Betts has joined the Firm as a Principal, resident in the Firm’s Pittsburgh, PA Office. Mr. Betts joins as a member of Post & Schell’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group, as well as its Class Action Defense and Trade Secret & Non-Compete Law Practice Groups, and immediately expands the legal services available to clients via the Firm’s Pittsburgh Office.

With over 35 years of experience, Mr. Betts represents clients in the full gamut of complex commercial litigation matters, including: banking litigation; class action defense; consumer litigation; fiduciary litigation; insurance litigation; securities litigation, including Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitrations; and trade secret/non-compete litigation.

Additionally, Mr. Betts has extensive experience with alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and has mediated a variety of litigation matters filed in state and federal courts and with arbitration panels. He is on the roster of ADR Neutrals for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Betts also has been approved by that Court as an E-Discovery Special Master and Mediator.

Prior to joining Post & Schell, Mr. Betts was in private practice and was Managing Member of Betts Law Office LLC and Betts Mediation & Dispute Resolution LLC. He served as a Senior Counsel-Litigation within the Legal Department of PNC Bank N.A., representing the bank in consumer class actions, FINRA related matters, customer arbitrations, wealth management and fiduciary litigation, and real estate litigation, among other matters. Mr. Betts spent a large part of his career in private practice with Pittsburgh-based law firms, including Reed Smith LLP, where he was a Litigation Partner.

Mr. Betts is a 1980 cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and 1977 graduate of Dickinson College. He is AV Preeminent peer review rated with Martindale-Hubbell, and a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania, the Allegheny County Bar Association, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Section, among other affiliations.
