Capella University Receives Excellence in Assessment Award

Capella University, (http://www.capella.edu), a regionally accredited online university which offers online degree programs designed to help working adults advance in their careers, has been named an inaugural recipient of the Excellence in Assessment award. This award recognizes exemplary colleges and universities that successfully integrate assessment practices across campus, provide evidence of student learning outcomes to stakeholders, and utilize assessment results to guide institutional decision-making and improve student performance.

A number of outstanding practices are in play, particularly in the areas of alignment and transparency, for example, the map showing alignment between institutional level, program level, and course level assessment,” stated the Excellence in Assessment (EIA) reviewers.

Capella is one of 10 institutions nationwide to receive this award based on a rigorous assessment from a review panel of independent experts. Their evaluation focused on the six components of the National Institute for Learning Outcome Assessment’s Transparency Framework. For each of these components, multiple dimensions of exemplary practice were defined, and a rubric was used to promote consistent scoring across all institutions.

Established last year, Excellence in Assessment (EIA) is a joint program of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, working in conjunction with the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment.
