Manchester, UK – Takarudana Mapendembe recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for PORA, a new mobile chat app for people experiencing similar diseases to send and receive phone calls and messages to each other.
“I want people suffering from, cured of and/or living with similar diseases to chat and phone each other for free using their mobile data or Wi-Fi,” the creator explains, “Imagine people suffering from breast cancer chatting and phoning people suffering from breast cancer so that they can help each other, encourage each other advise each other and also have that feeling that you are not alone. I want this to be the same for all common diseases.”
To use the app, you simply download it and then register. To register, you put enter in your username or nickname. Real names are not necessary for confidentiality purposes. You then type in your phone number and your post code. From a list of all common diseases, you select one disease and your name and photo will only appear under that disease and you can only communicate with people listed under that disease. If you have multiple diseases, you select multiple diseases and you communicate with people who have those diseases.
Ultimately, the creator would like PORA to be available for iPhone, Android phones, Windows, etc. The more platforms that PORA can work on, the better. This app will provide a long list of benefits to people who are living with or are recovered from various diseases by helping them feel less lonely, giving them better coping skills, giving them a place to find practical advice, and much more.
“PORA makes you feel less lonely, gives you empowerment and control and you benefit a lot from encouragement and inspiration from other people suffering from the same disease as you,” says Mapendembe, who was inspired to make this app after his father, a prostate cancer patient, interacted with other patients going through the same thing and was referred to a doctor who helped turn things around for him.
Backers are encouraged to pledge, subscribe to project updates, share on social media and download the app when it becomes available. No donation is too small. The money will be used to hire experienced professional mobile app developers to build the app and advertise the app so that it becomes known worldwide. We want the app to be downloaded and used by many millions of people. Money is also needed for the day to day running of the app since it will be free to download and free to use.
