“As CTO of core technologies at Meta, I’m heading up computer vision, software, displays, and hardware, as well as the overall architecture of the system. My focus is on continually elevating Meta’s technologies to something really great,” said Pulli, who has spent two decades leading groundbreaking research in computer imaging and AR at companies such as Intel, NVIDIA and Nokia.

Before joining Meta, Pulli worked as senior principal engineer and CTO of the Imaging and Camera Technologies Group at Intel, influencing the architecture of future IPU's in hardware and software while building high-performing advanced solutions teams. Prior, he was vice president of computational imaging at Light, where he developed algorithms for combining images from a heterogeneous camera array into a single high-quality image. He previously led research teams as a senior director at NVIDIA Research and as a Nokia Fellow at Nokia Research, where he focused on computational photography, computer vision, and AR.

“I like learning new things, and I like working on exciting topics. AR – and Meta – is where things are happening,” Pulli added. “I was at places in the past that tried it, but it was too early. Now is the time to put all of our industry research into developing something that will work in the real world.”

Pulli holds computer science degrees from the University of Minnesota (BSc), University of Oulu (MSc, Lic. Tech), and University of Washington (PhD), as well as an MBA from the University of Oulu. He has taught and worked as a researcher at Stanford University, University of Oulu, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In December 2016 Meta began shipping to select individual and enterprise developers its Meta 2 Development Kit, which delivers a totally immersive experience unlike any other AR product to date. Meta 2 enables people to use their hands to interact with holograms so they can touch, grab, create, and share digital content. The technology holds promise in application to numerous markets, including product and building design, education, workplace productivity, manufacturing, and medicine.

About Meta

Born in NYC and raised in Silicon Valley, Meta has been defining the field of AR since the company’s inception in 2012. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Meta was selected by Y Combinator (YC13) for seed funding. Meta entered the marketplace with the first see-through glasses that allowed wearers to move and manipulate 3D content intuitively, using natural hand interactions. With the introduction of the groundbreaking Meta 2 product at TED 2016, Meta is once again redefining the market and delivering a new generation of Natural Machines™ that will become a healthy, vital extension of who we are.
