Tech From Vets Executive Named To Jacksonville’s 40 Under 40 List

JACKSONVILLE, FL – 23 Mar, 2017 – Jacksonville Business Journal and Vets 22, today announced Drayton Florence, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Tech From Vets, as one of the winners of the Jacksonville Business Journals 40 Under 40 Award. The Jacksonville Business Journals 40 Under 40 Award is an elite honor as hundreds of professionals were nominated, and the honorees were narrowed down to 40, including Drayton Florence. The Jacksonville Business Journal will officially honor Mr. Florence at their annual 40 Under 40 Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at EverBank Field.  Jacksonville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 Award recognizes professionals under age 40 who make a significant impact both in business and in the community.

Drayton’s career started in professional sports. Drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft, Florence is the highest drafted player to enter the NFL from Tuskegee University. Drayton played an impressive eleven seasons in the National Football League. Over his career, Florence played for the following NFL teams: San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. On April 23, 2013, Florence was honored as one of the first football players in the history of Tuskegee Athletics to get his number retired by the Tuskegee University Athletics Hall of Fame. “I enjoyed and respected my opportunity to play in the NFL for 11 years, Ironically, my college graduation and retirement were on the same day. I am ready to attack phase two,” said Florence after graduating from The University of North Florida earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management in 2015.

Florence’s goal to help veterans transition out of the military led the tech company to develop the Vets 22 mobile and web application. “We are getting calls and messages stating that veterans are finding lifesaving resources with our app,” said Florence. The objective of the Vets 22 app is to give veterans instant access to resources via a mobile and web application. The Vets 22 app provides veterans access to VA claims assistance, exercise facilities, employment opportunities, housing solutions, discounts, suicide prevention hotlines, veterans service organizations, members only chat and so much more. The Florida Fallen Heroes Foundation will be honoring Florence and Tech From Vets with an award for developing the Vets 22 app on May 22, 2017.
