China Scientist Given Lasker Award for TCM-based Malaria Drug

Dr. YouYou Tu of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in Beijing was given the 2011 Lasker Award for work that led to the discovery of artemisinin, the world’s foremost treatment for malaria. Dr. Tu’s investigations, conducted 40 years ago, scoured ancient literature for TCM recipes that would be effective against the deadly disease.
