Undergraduate Students Can Save 30% in Time and Money through New AIU AccelerateTM Program at American InterContinental UniversityTM

American InterContinental UniversityTM (AIU®) today introduced AIU AccelerateTM, an innovative online assessment program that helps students earn credit for the knowledge they already have so they can pursue their degree more efficiently. Delivered through intellipath®, AIU’s proprietary learning technology, the assessments allow students to demonstrate mastery in select general education and core program courses. For each assessment they pass, students will earn proficiency credit to fulfill specific program requirements, which can shorten their degree program length and can reduce the cost by up to 30% for bachelor-level students. Students pursuing an associate degree can save up to 50% in time and costs.

“AIU students are typically career-driven professionals who want an educational experience that recognizes the knowledge they bring with them from previous education, work and military experience,” said Dr. George Miller, president of AIU. “By administering AIU AccelerateTM through intellipath, we can not only determine what students know accurately and comprehensively but also gain a deep understanding of their knowledge base to help assure they are prepared for success in subsequent courses.”

Each AIU Accelerate assessment is individually built by AIU faculty to measure knowledge in the key topics and concepts covered in the course on which it is based. Available for general education and core program courses such as English, math, science, accounting and economics, AIU Accelerate is open to all new and current associate- and bachelor-level students at AIU Online and ground campuses at no charge. Students must earn a score of 70 percent or greater to earn course credit but are not penalized if they do not meet this score; instead, they can simply enroll in the full course. Each selected assessment may be attempted only once.

“AIU’s degree programs are designed to help students move their career forward in a way that respects their time and money,” said Dr. Miller. “AIU Accelerate assessments offer another opportunity to help working professionals fit pursuing a degree into their busy lifestyles.”

The ability to reduce time in school and/or reduce tuition depends on the number of AIU Accelerate assessments successfully passed. AIU Accelerate program credits are unlikely to transfer. For more information, please visit www.aiuniv.edu/accelerate.
