CureDuchenne, a nonprofit that raises awareness and funds research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, announced today that they will host a Napa in Newport Wine Auction on February 28 at the Balboa Bay Resort. More than 20 Napa Valley vintners will showcase their finest wines. Vintners include: Vineyard 29, Barbour Vineyards, Broman Cellars, Clif Family, Lede Family Wines, Cimarossa Howell Mountain, Crocker & Starr, Dana Estates, Darioush, David Arthur Vineyards, Davis Estates, D.R. Stephens Estate, Fairchild Wines, Gandona Winery, Gemstone Vineyard, Heitz Cellar, Hill Family Estate, Kelly Fleming Wines, Lail Vineyards, Redmon Wines, Relic, Saint Helena Winery, Scherrer Winery, Sequoia Grove and more. The Napa in Newport Wine Auction benefits CureDuchenne and proceeds of the event will fund research to find a cure for Duchenne, a progressive muscle-wasting disease that impacts 1 in 3,500 boys.

The Napa in Newport Wine Auction will include wine tasting; dinner and wine pairings with a Napa vintner at every table; a silent auction; and a live auction featuring one-of-a-kind wines and wine-themed experiences. Chuck and Anne McMinn, owners of Vineyard 29, are honorary co-chairs of the Napa in Newport Wine Auction. Master Sommelier Michael Jordan, one of only 15 people in the world to hold both Master Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator diplomas, is the wine curator of the event.

“We are delighted to bring Napa to Newport Beach and support a great cause like CureDuchenne,” said Chuck McMinn. “Napa Valley vintners have a long history of supporting charities and we hope by bringing our extraordinary wines to Orange County we can help raise significant dollars to fund research to find a cure for this devastating disease.”

Chef David Slay of Park Ave has designed a creative menu exclusive for this event. Chef Slay brings his well-earned reputation as one of the most creative and professional chefs in the world of food and entertaining to his work at Park Ave Restaurant which is consistently recognized for excellence and rated as one of the five best restaurants in Orange County in the annual Zagat survey. Chef Slay’s fresh, flavorful menu will complement the wines and bring the taste of Napa to Newport.

“We encourage wine collectors and other wine lovers to join us at the Napa in Newport Beach Wine Auction,” said Debra Miller, founder and CEO of CureDuchenne. “While enjoying an amazing evening of good food and fine wine guests will make an impact on the lives of boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.”

Boys with Duchenne are usually diagnosed by 5, in a wheelchair by 12 and most don’t survive their mid-20s. Currently, there is no approved treatment for Duchenne. All proceeds of the Napa in Newport Wine Auction supports research projects aimed at treating and curing Duchenne.

Napa in Newport Wine Auction sponsors include Argyros Foundation, Sarepta Therapeutics, First Foundation, Paloma Medical Group, John Balisey & Co., WHGC, 55⁰ and Kenny the Printer.
