Thousands of Comcast Colorado Employees, Families to Give Back to Nonprofits for 14th Annual Comcast Cares Day

On Saturday, April 25, more than 7,000 local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer to improve 35 Colorado nonprofits as part of the 14th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast NBCUniversal’s companywide celebration of their year-round commitment to service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort in the country.

This year, the Company expects more than 95,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in more than 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, volunteers have contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly 6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $16 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have partnered with us on Comcast Cares Day.

Amp the Cause

Amp the Cause’s mission is to improve the lives of families through entertainment, annual events and community service projects. They raise critical health and education funds, generate awareness of local charities, use monetary and in-kind donations to help children with life-threatening illnesses, and provide opportunities for kids to participate in educational programs in a safe and healthy environment. Teams of volunteers will be dispersed to complete multiple facility improvement projects, including painting, landscaping, cleaning, roofing, carpeting and much more.

Audubon Society of Greater Denver

The Audubon Society of Greater Denver (ASGD) is an environmental conservation organization with more than 3,000 members whose goal is to protect birds in the Denver region and beyond, and preserve habitats. ASGD advocates for the environment, connecting people with nature through education, conservation and research. At ASGD, volunteers will help with general landscaping, clearing trails and other special projects.

Biennial of the Americas

The Biennial of the Americas is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of art and ideas in Denver, and connecting the Americas. The Biennial of the Americas has partnered with local property owners in the Santa Fe Arts District (both commercial and nonprofit) to identify locations that require consistent graffiti removal. Comcast Cares Day volunteers—along with Biennial constituents and neighborhood volunteers—will participate in a graffiti wipe out. Additionally, they will identify locations that can be abated ahead of time and work with artists to create mural designs, which volunteers will implement on Comcast Cares Days.

Boettcher Boys And Girls Club

The Boettcher Branch’s mission is to empower every Club member, through safe and impactful experiences, to: graduate high school with a plan for college or career, contribute to their community and live a healthy life. The Boettcher Club in Aurora offers the community an education center, cultural arts center, wood shop, technology lab, weight training room, kitchen, gym, social recreation area, teen game room, and provides a full range of activities and programs for its members. Volunteers will paint the student game room, help organize kid’s books and board games, as well as provide general clean up throughout the facilities. Activities will also consist of taking inventory, labeling, organizing P.E. equipment and repairing the gym benches. Outside, volunteers will be landscaping the area around the building.

Bonfils Blood Drive
Comcast and Bonfils Blood Offices throughout Colorado

Bonfils Blood Center needs thousands of donors to meet the needs of our community and to be prepared in case of an emergency. Each Comcast employee that donates blood help can save and enhance the lives of up to three patients.

Boys & Girls Club Colorado Springs (E.A. Tutt Club)

For 125 years, the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region has been in the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances. At the E.A. Tutt Club, volunteers will participate in outdoor activities including repairing the gazebo, benches and planters, landscaping the general area and playground pulling weeds, trimming trees, placing plants in planters. Indoors, volunteers will help clean and restore the club’s computer lab, teen room, restrooms, front desk area and kitchen. Projects will include repairing cabinets and doors, ripping out and replacing carpet areas, re-carpet bleachers, and shelving.

Boys & Girls Club Race Against Violence

The Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club officially opened on August 28, 2003. The Club, a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and the Denver Broncos Football Club, serves more than 1,500 kids each year. The Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Clubs’ Race Against Violence is a special day set aside each Spring to help the Club and community members engage in healthy and fun activities while also taking a stand against the violence that has plagued their community. Volunteers will organize and run this event for the Club.

Boys & Girls Club Shopneck

Comcast is especially excited this year to partner with Scripps Networks and Rebuilding Together to make a lasting impact at this project site. Volunteers from both organizations will join forces with Comcast to provide a much-needed shade structure to the open outdoor area at the club. In addition they will replace the top of the existing pergolas as well as sand and repaint them. To beautify the outdoor space, this team also will plant new trees along the walking path. In addition, this project will consist of a variety of indoor and outdoor activities including painting the club gym and fun center, help organizing the art room, library and storage areas, sanding and repainting art tables, planting trees, cutting bushes, beautifying some of the gardening area, general cleaning of windows, walls, air/heating vents and picking up trash around the building, and re-striping the basketball court area.

Clayton Early Learning Center

Clayton Early Learning is Colorado’s leading catalyst in providing early care and education, and collaborating with others to improve these important services. Volunteers will come together to complete more than 11 projects across the 20-acre Clayton campus. Projects will include cleaning the campus pathway, drainage, parking lot, and building windows. Volunteers will also help planting trees, arranging wood chips and creating playground and garden bed areas. Indoors activities will consist of cleaning the playground and classrooms. Comcast will also be providing child care with snacks and activities.

Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation (At Ruby Hill Foundation)

Colorado “I Have A Dream” (CIHAD) Foundation works with low-income, marginalized communities throughout Metro Denver through educational and wraparound support. This year, they began a whole school model where they have partnered with the new STRIVE Prep Elementary School – Ruby Hill – and will be working with those students starting in Kindergarten and following them through high school graduation. Volunteers will help create a more inviting look to the building through community-led mural painting, beautifying the outside walls, and building out the outside facade.

Compass Academy

John Hopkins University’s Center for Social Organization of Schools and City Year have partnered together to develop a charter school, and have chosen Denver as the site for the first implementation of that charter school. City Year and the Compass Academy start-up team, in collaboration with Comcast, will organize a full renovation of the building and outside grounds for Comcast Cares Day. Projects will include painting of interior walls, landscaping of the exterior grounds, replanting of the school garden and rejuvenating the playground area.

Denver Children’s Home

Denver Children’s Home (DCH) is the oldest non-profit in Colorado, who care for the state's abused and neglected children. Volunteers will participate in a deep clean of the facilities and general landscape and painting. In addition, they will build a fence for the property.

Denver Health

Denver Health cares for all people and is committed to providing the best care for every person, mind body and spirit and making the community a healthy place to live, work, and raise a family. The volunteer teams will be assisting in various beautification projects such as planting shrubs, landscape work, painting of picnic tables and assistance with hospital beds.

Volunteers will also participate in a baby drive at work making fleece blankets for the Denver Health Newborns in Need program.

Denver Indian Center

The Denver Indian Center’s mission is to empower our youth, families and community through self-determination, cultural identity and education. Indoor activities will include painting hallways, doorframes and conference room. Outdoors, volunteers will help planting perennials in the garden beds and painting a mural on the outside back wall of the building.

Easter Seals

Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 100 years. Volunteers will help in a variety of indoor and outdoor beautification activities. Outdoor projects will include cleaning the facility, gutter cleaning, caulking and cleaning windows, cleaning the side lot and washing vehicles. Volunteers will also perform landscaping such as tree trimming, cleaning out pine needles, weeding and prepping flower beds. Several construction and painting projects will also take place such as staining and repairing fences, helping assemble picnic tables, sanding park benches. Indoors, volunteers will help organizing and cleaning the facility’s day program room, women’s locker area, kitchen area, and painting the offices and pool area. Volunteers will also arrange save-the-date mailing for Easter Seals event and sorting craft supplies.

Environmental Learning for Kids

Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) provides programs to educate the next generation about the importance of maintaining a safe and clean environment for our future. On April 25, volunteers will join ELK planting trees throughout Parkfield Park.

EPIC Book Drive
Denver Metro Area Comcast Offices

Comcast Cares is partnering with EPIC (Executives Partnering to Invest in Children) and the Office of Lt. Governor Garcia (Colorado Reads) to promote COLORADO BUSINESS READS in the Denver Metro Region. The statewide book drive places books in the homes of children birth through age eight, while highlighting the importance of positive adult/child interaction through reading activities. Donation boxes will be available in several Comcast offices where employees can drop off books and then help sort, package and deliver to EPIC.

Food Bank of the Rockies

Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) is the largest private hunger-relief organization in the state of Colorado. Since 1978, FBR has provided nearly 571 million pounds of food to member agencies, which translates to nearly 476 million meals for people in need. Volunteers will work in one of two areas – reclamation and USDA/CSFP Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold through life-changing programs and experiences that help girls navigate barriers and reach their full potential. They provide year-round academic-achievement and skill-building programs that are delivered by trained, mentoring professionals in a positive all-girl environment. Volunteers will work on general indoor and outdoor beautification projects.

Greenway Foundation (Denver Parks and Recreation)

The Greenway Foundation is a Denver-based nonprofit organization that has led efforts, since 1974, to reclaim the South Platte River and its tributaries from a virtual cesspool to a place of environmental and recreational pride. Volunteers will help with numerous projects including laying fine crusher trails, picking up trash, removing plant debris, painting park features and more.

Humane Society of South Platte Valley

The Humane Society of the South Platte Valley (HSSPV) was established to serve the communities of south Denver offering shelter, care and compassion for lost, stray and unwanted animals until they are redeemed by their families or adopted into a new home. Volunteers will be landscaping the front of the building area with grass & plants, painting stripes in the parking lot and walking dogs while their area is renovated.

Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Valley

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to the care and protection of domesticated animals in our community. HSPPR rescues and cares for animals in distress, reunites lost pets with their owners, finds loving homes for homeless animals and teaches people how to properly care for and respect animals, as well as enforces licensing and other animal ordinances. Volunteers will be helping setup for the annual HSPPR "Furball" event. Activities will include setting up the things to be auctioned and getting supplies ready for the event, along with general clean-up tasks.

Larimer County Parks & Rec

Larimer County Natural Resources Department's mission is to establish, protect, and manage significant regional parks and open lands providing quality outdoor recreational opportunities and stewardship of natural resource values. On Comcast Cares Day, volunteers will work in groups with the Larimer County Natural Resources Volunteer Program maintenance and trails teams finishing campsites and tie a new trail constructed just last fall into the parking lot and campgrounds. Children will participate in a guided nature hike led by one of the Natural Resources’ Naturalists.

McAuliffe International School

The McAuliffe at Smiley Foundation's goal is to support McAuliffe International School in achieving its mission of creating a high-performing middle school that prepares all students for success in high school, college and life. At this project, volunteers will help with general beautification projects including landscaping, painting.

Mi Casa Resource Center

Since 1976, Mi Casa has been dedicated to advancing the economic success of Latino and working families in the Denver Metro area. At Mi Casa, volunteers will help with a variety of indoor and outdoor beautification activities to create a clean and comfortable environment for families. Indoors, volunteers will help renovate the center by removing wall paper, painting walls, smoothing out ceilings and touching up the community hall stage. Outside, volunteers will perform landscaping such as weeding, raking, and cleaning outdoor trash.

OpenWorld Learning

Over 100 low-income 3rd-8th grade students from the Denver area will be competing in this year's OWL TechFair held at Industry, Denver on April 25th. Live competitions include Lego Robotics and Coding, with judged competitions in Movie Making and Graphic Design as well. Volunteer activities will include Event Judging, Tech Computer Support, AV Support, Event Set Up, Event Teardown, Registration Tables, Ushers, Space Managers, Uber Support, Photography, Donation Pick & and Delivery, and Kitchen Staff. Volunteers will also hand out materials and answer questions to increase awareness of Internet Essentials, the nation’s leading broadband adoption program helping low-income families connect to the Internet at home.

Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center

The Pikes Peak Therapeutic Riding Center strives to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities or special needs through equine assisted activities and therapies. This project will provide area beautification to exterior buildings, interior rooms as well as overall cleanup of the area and facilities.

R.I.D.E. (Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians)

The Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians is an organization designed to provide horseback riding therapy to developmentally and physically disabled children and adults. Projects will include painting, planting flowers, general maintenance and clean up.

Roy J Wasson Academic Campus - District 11

In 2013, the Roy J Wasson Academic Campus was converted from a high school to a center for non-traditional education. The campus' programs now include adult education, night classes, special-needs classes, and an early college track for high school students. At this site, volunteers will participate in indoor and outdoor activities to help renovate and beautify the campus. Activities will include painting the campus auditorium and hall of fame, ecosystem spruce up, wildflower planting, landscaping, and general cleaning of the school facilities, athletic field, and outdoor areas.

Runyon Field

Pueblo's Runyon Sports Complex is one of the region's most popular recreation sites for youth baseball. On Comcast Cares Day, volunteers will participate in a variety of projects including painting dugouts (inside and out), painting the field’s announcers booth, ticket booth and bleachers, planting flowers and shrubs around the complex, leveling the ground in the batting cages, and helping clean along the area’s fenced inside and outside.

Seniors’ Resource Center

Seniors’ Resource Group is a community partner providing person-focused, coordinated services to enhance independence, dignity and quality of life. To beautify the senior citizen’s homes in the area, volunteers will participate in general cleanup of the facility and landscape work surrounding the facilities.

Trinidad Community Foundation

The Trinidad Community Foundation (TCF) connects people who care with causes that matter. Their mission is to enhance and develop the quality of life in our community by leading and forming partnerships for health and wellness, education, recreation, and historic preservation projects, and encouraging communication in the community. Comcast employees will partner with TCF to bring together hundreds of Trinidad residents to clean up the river walk, which is also a part of the town’s expanding trail system. Projects will include general beautification and litter removal around the river.

Troublesome Horse Rescue

The Troublesome Horse Rescue is dedicated to providing a safe harbor and care for equine animals in need. Volunteers will be helping with horse grooming, fence repair and flagging, metal siding repair, and arena, stall and cemetery cleaning.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (Colorado)

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States has a solemn, unwavering mission to assist veterans and their dependents in obtaining the entitlements they justly deserve. At the VFW Colorado Department, volunteers will help repair the facility’s fence, paint the interior and exterior of the building, and general cleaning.

Wheeling Elementary (Aurora Public Schools Foundation)
