MCPHS-Manchester Announces $50,000 Donation from Walgreens

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health announced yesterday it has received a $50,000 donation from Walgreens that will fund a new state-of-the-art student lounge and function space at the College’s Manchester campus. The second-floor location offers views of the Manchester Millyard, Catholic Medical Center and several historic sites.

“As the nation’s largest drugstore chain, we know the importance of supporting pharmacy schools,” said Leo Lariviere, Walgreens pharmacy supervisor. “We are happy to help MCPHS continue their legacy of educating, inspiring and molding future pharmacists.” The donation was presented during a morning ceremony at the Manchester campus. In attendance were several local Walgreens representatives, including Mr.Lariviere, Anna O’Herren, New Hampshire District manager, and Mike Arnoult, regional vice president.

“We are very grateful for this tremendous donation from Walgreens,” said MCPHS Charles F. Monahan Jr. after the presentation. “Over the years, Walgreens has continued to be a valuable partner to the College, helping us provide the cutting-edge facilities necessary for training and locating health care professionals right here in New Hampshire.”

To date, the College has invested more than $30M in refurbishing the downtown campus at 1260 Elm St. In June 2008, the College announced the purchase of two properties totaling 2.5 acres and 69,000 square feet. The Manchester campus was founded in 2002, after the College took over Notre Dame College’s Physician Assistant Studies program. The campus added a Nursing program in 2007 and offers the only Pharmacy program in Northern New England.
