Max Capital Group Announces Appointment of International Casualty Reinsurance Underwriting Team by Max at Lloyd’s

Max Capital Group Ltd. (NASDAQ:MXGL; BSX:MXGL BH) today announced the appointment of two senior International Casualty reinsurance underwriters – Graeme Scott and Stuart Hawes – by Max at Lloyd’s Ltd, the Lloyd’s managing agent for Syndicates 1400, 2525 and 2526.

W. Marston (Marty) Becker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Max Capital Group Ltd., commented: "The addition of an International Casualty reinsurance team at Max at Lloyd’s represents a further important step in building the specialty underwriting capabilities of our Lloyd’s platform and in diversifying the operations of Max. We are fortunate that Graeme and Stuart are able to join the deep bench of talented underwriters already with Max at Lloyd’s. We believe we have succeeded in hiring accomplished and well-connected professionals with a proven track record and the expertise necessary to effectively develop this line of business for us.”

Graeme Scott has been appointed Casualty Treaty Underwriting Manager for Lloyd’s Syndicate 1400, and will be responsible for writing a portfolio of International Casualty Treaty business from the Syndicate's Box at Lloyd's, to complement the existing books of Property and Personal Accident Treaty business already written by the Syndicate. Graeme has more than thirty years of experience in Casualty underwriting, most recently as Senior International Casualty Treaty Underwriter for ACE Tempest Re in London, where he wrote a profitable non-motor account. Previously, he was Underwriting Manager (Facultative Casualty) with Munich Re UK. Graeme holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from The Open University and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Graeme will be supported by Stuart Hawes, who has been appointed Treaty Underwriter for Lloyd’s Syndicate 1400. Stuart has fourteen years of insurance experience, including nine years in Casualty reinsurance underwriting, most recently also with ACE Tempest Re. In 1995, Stuart graduated from Nottingham University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Planning and Management. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII).

Matthew Petzold, Underwriting Director of Max at Lloyd’s, commented: “We are very pleased to have attracted such high-calibre underwriters as Graeme and Stuart to form the nucleus of Max at Lloyd’s Casualty reinsurance treaty team. They have a history of developing profitable books of business, and we expect they will quickly build out a capable non-US Casualty underwriting facility for Syndicate 1400.”

Messrs. Scott and Hawes will be moving to Max at Lloyd's as soon as their current employment obligations are fulfilled, which, in both cases, is expected to be during the third quarter of 2009.
