Atmel (Nasdaq: ATML) widened second quarter losses but revenue climbed to beat analyst expectations.
Regis (NYSE: RGS) retained the services of Peter J. Solomon Co., Faegre & Benson LLP and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz to explore strategic alternatives including the option of selling the company.
On the downside
Ikanos Communications (Nasdaq: IKAN) widened second quarter losses and announced a 20% reduction in staff.
Pacer International (Nasdaq: PACR) swung to a second quarter profit but the stock price dropped.
TFS Financial (NYSE: TFSL) disappointed with flat second quarter earnings.
In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of more than 3 to 2 on the NYSE and by more than 2 to 1 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks dropped 6 points to 656.
