With the Indian Ministry of Defence having made known their intention to float an Expression of Interest for the long awaited $5 billion Battlefield Management System, a seminar will bring vendors and users together in New Delhi on 28-29 November.
PRLog - Nov. 2, 2013 - NEW DELHI, India -- The Indian Defence Ministry has decided the Army’s new battlefield management system (BMS) will be acquired as a “Make India” program.

The BMS program has been under consideration by the MoD for more than four years. The US $5 billion project will boost the local defense industry.

Expressions of interest (EOIs) will be sent to BEL, Electronics Corporation of India, Computer Maintenance Corporation, ITI, domestic private-sector major Tata Power SED, Rolta India, Wipro, Larsen & Toubro, HCL, Punj Lloyd, Bharat Forge, Tata Consultancy, Info Systems and Tech Mahindra.

These companies will forge ties with overseas defense majors to acquire advanced technologies. Israel Aerospace Industries, Rafael and Elbit of Israel; Thales and Nexter of France; Rhode & Schwartz of Germany; BAE Systems of the UK; Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and General Dynamics of the US; and Selex of Italy are expected to compete for tie-ups.

Development of prototypes is likely to cost about $67 million with the MoD covering 80 percent of the expense.

BMS will integrate various other systems already under way like the Battlefield Surveillnace System (BMS), Artillery Command Control Communications System (ACCCS), Command Information Decision Support System (CIDSS), Air Defence Control & Reporting (AD C&R), Electronic Warfare (EW) and others. It will also facilitate feeding in of the intelligence, terrain and logistics information to give a common operating picture to commanders at various levels.

BMS will also incorporate data transmission, voice and images from multiple sources including radars, cameras and laser range finders

To facilitate better understanding of the system and to bring the vendors and users together, IMR Media (bms@idyb.com), in collaboration with the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies are organising a seminar cum exhibition at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi on 28-29 November.

IMR Media, publishers of the Indian Military Review magazine and Indian Defence Yearbook, have regularly organised defense events in India. Among the recent ones were Military Simulation & Training, Maritime & Coastal Security and Precision Attack & Targeting. Other events scheduled ahead are Unmanned Vehicles India (25-26 November), Night Vision (21-22 January 2014) and CBRNe Protection (6-7 March 2014). For event reports see imrmedia.in/events.
