Tim Robbins’s Performance of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 Now Available as an Audio Download at Audible.com

Audible, Inc., the world’s largest seller and producer of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word content, today announced the release of Tim Robbins’s audio interpretation of Ray Bradbury’s classic work of speculative fiction, Fahrenheit 451. This new performance by Academy Award winner Robbins is one of four definitive recordings of the Bradbury canon produced by Audible Studios in association with the Bradbury Estate. Other Bradbury titles also newly available are Something Wicked This Way Comes, narrated by Christian Rummel, and The Martian Chronicles, narrated by Mark Boyett, as well as a new recording by Jonathan Davis of the Bradbury story “The Playground,” which was part of the original hardcover edition of Fahrenheit 451. To download any of these audiobooks, visit www.audible.com/bradbury.

“I love this book. Fahrenheit 451 is such an important book in so many ways and it’s so great to revisit it,” said Robbins. “The whole format of audiobooks is, in a way, making sure that Fahrenheit 451 doesn’t happen. It’s creating another way for literature to survive. If the audiobook is heard, more people will discover what is a great book.”

“Tim Robbins’s performance of Fahrenheit 451 is further evidence of his status as one of our finest actors,” said Audible EVP and Publisher Beth Anderson. “The way this quartet of terrific acting talent breathes new life into these important works of literature makes for a multidimensional experience of Bradbury’s language—and incredible listening.”

Among the acclaimed actors who have performed other works of literature for Audible are Bryan Cranston, Dan Stevens, Dustin Hoffman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kate Winslet and Susan Sarandon. In 2013, Audible Studios won its first Grammy Award, for its production of Janis Ian’s memoir Society’s Child, and also won the Audie Award for Audiobook of the Year, for Colin Firth’s performance of Graham Greene’s The End of the Affair.

Audible invented and commercialized the first digital audio player in 1997, and has since been at the forefront of the explosively growing audiobook download segment. In 2013, Audible members downloaded an average of more than 17 books over the course of a year, the equivalent of close to 600 million listening hours.
