PMC Joins Cloud Partners in Canonical’s Ubuntu OpenStack Interoperability Lab

PMC-Sierra, Inc. (PMC®) (Nasdaq:PMCS), the semiconductor and software solutions innovator transforming networks that connect, move and store big data, today announced participation in Canonical's Ubuntu OpenStack Interoperability Lab (OIL). OIL is an integration lab in which Canonical tests and validates cloud partners’ software with multiple versions of Ubuntu OpenStack on industry-leading hardware configurations.

“Canonical’s Ubuntu operating system and Ubuntu OpenStack are the most popular operating platforms for cloud and scale-out computing,” said Kurt Chan, vice president of storage technology and strategy for PMC’s Enterprise Storage Division. “PMC’s storage products combine the highest port count and performance with power efficiency, and they are foundational to enabling the scale-out data center. Working with the OpenStack Interoperability Lab as a cloud ecosystem partner will ensure that PMC solutions can be deployed seamlessly across a wide variety of Ubuntu OpenStack configurations.”

Currently OIL is working with more than 3,000 Ubuntu OpenStack combinations per month. Ubuntu is the hyperscale OS natively powering scale-out workloads on a new wave of low-cost, ultra-dense server hardware based on x86, ARM, and OpenPower processors. PMC’s storage products, including SAS and SATA I/O controllers, SAS expanders, Adaptec by PMC® RAID adapters and HBAs, and Flashtec™NVMe solutions are designed to enable the Ubuntu OpenStack framework.
