Wood pallet recycling: ALA Recycling is buying and selling used pallets in all grades and sizes

December 16, 2014 /MM-PressAdvantage/

NEWTON, Mass. – ALA Recycling, a premier recycling processor, dealer and consultant, is currently buying and selling used wooden pallets. The pallets, many rated by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) standard, are useful for a variety of purposes, from retail display, warehousing and shipping, to household projects.

Generally inexpensive, pallets are used in many clever DIY projects, including home décor, shelving, garden-related items and even furniture. In business applications, they are a more cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to new pallets.

ALA Recycling offers GMA rated pallets, from Premium Grade A to Grade B, as well as other sized pallets that do not refer to the GMA grading process, but come in all different conditions.

According to ALA Recycling, Premium Grade A wood pallets are those most commonly used for retail since they sit out on the sales floor and become a fundamental part of the display. They have seven boards on top and five boards on the bottom and no block or metal repairs to the stringers (the parallel pieces of timber that create the pallet frame). In addition, the stringers have no color or paint and are mostly clean of markings on the sides or ends.

For the most part, Grade A pallets are used by the food and pharmaceutical industries. Essentially the same as Premium Grade A, they can have one metal repair plate on a stringer to strengthen any split, and may have some paint or markings on the sides of the stringers.

A good middle ground between Grade A and Grade B pallets, primarily used for warehousing or shipping, is the Premium Grade B. It is a cost saving pallet and will have fewer transfer cycles than the Grade B. Because of this, it is more likely to have fewer markings, chips, cracks and other damage.

The Premium Grade B pallet is just about the same as a standard Grade B, but only one of the three stringers will have an added plug or other type of repair. In addition, it will likely have some paint or markings on the sides of the stringers.

While the Grade B pallet is less expensive than the Grade A, it is used in situations where the pallet will most likely not be coming back. It has six to seven boards on top and no less than four boards on the bottom.

Those interested in other sizes of pallets are asked to contact ALA Recycling for availability and condition.
