In 2008, the U.S. National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that seven percent of women age 12 and older had a drug dependence and addiction; with up to 12 percent dealing with alcohol abuse. Issues of mental health, pain and loss are given an intense amount of attention at Orchid. These issues are given far greater dedication and attention than commonly found in other programs. With up to 36 hours of therapy a week and plenty of certified therapists on staff, Orchid offers each woman an unusual combination of communal strength and individual care.

In addition, Orchid offers a methadone maintenance treatment program, which offers the use of methadone as a treatment for someone who is addicted to opioids, such as heroin. Medications like methadone can block the physical symptoms caused by heroin withdrawal and decrease the cravings for drugs that women tend to feel. Since women feel better, both physically and emotionally, they may be more likely to stay involved in their addiction treatment programs. Instead of dropping out early in order to return to drug use, they may be able to maintain their focus and stay enrolled in care.
