Capital Safety, a world wide leader of fall protection strategies recently announced during OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down that they were putting forth an initiative to create an awareness of how to prevent falls that are construction and roofing related. One of the leading causes of death for construction workers are from falls from elevated heights while working.
Called The Every Worker, Every Time program, Capital is sponsoring the 10 day fall and prevention program, with the objective of bringing every worker home save every day by initiating awareness and better safety practices during roofing projects.
As a related initiative, Milwaukee Roofing Authority has launched a new website that prescreens Milwaukee roofing contractors for high safety & quality standards.
The program that Capital is instituting will make available 38 of the fully equipped and customized demonstration vehicles in action and on the road. These trips will offer safety managers and construction workers presentations of safety equipment and fall prevention strategies that can be put into place immediately. There are hundreds of presentations scheduled across the nation where compliance, awareness and education will be the byword so fall prevention measures can be put into force as soon as possible.
This is the second annual campaign to reduce such accidents from falling by discussions, demonstrations of safety equipment, and training on how to use such equipment as harnesses, guard rails, and overall group awareness of potential fall awareness.
Statistics show that each and every day, construction workers fall from pitched roofs, from an unstable ladder, or falling and tripping on scaffolds. Just one misstep and a tragedy can occur on a roofing project.

There have been Stand Down events that have been scheduled all throughout the year of 2015 in all 50 states by labor unions, universities, faith-based and community groups, and business leaders, in an attempt to bring more awareness and education to employers and workers alike.
Workers who work at heights tend to get used to the fact that they can get around so easily, and they sometimes take for granted that they are going to be OK. That is when they can tend to become complacent and they tend to become careless. One slip is all it takes, and if there are safety equipped back up systems, a tragedy can be the result.
With increases this coming year in construction being forecast, it is even more important to get the word out, and make even more construction managers and workers more aware of the solutions to the problem.
