WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - Jan. 17, 2016 - PRLog -- PPG’s steering committee is tasked with driving new projects, building awareness of scientifically sound, humane training methods for animals, educating both pet professionals and the pet owning public in all matters related to training and behavior, and expanding core membership worldwide.
New Jersey-based Kelly Fahey is a Level 2, Pat Miller certified trainer and a Dog*tec certified dog walker and petsitter. She owns and operates The DogSmith of Hunterdon, New Jersey and strives to help people teach their dogs to be well-mannered family members, thereby keeping more dogs in homes and out of shelters. Fahey is joined on the steering committee by fellow New Jersey resident, Mary Jean Alsina, a certified professional dog trainer - knowledge assessed. She was recently named one of the first worldwide 27 accredited professionals to earn the title of PCT-A (Professional Canine Trainer-Accredited) through the Pet Professional Accreditation Board.
“I am honored to have been invited to be part of PPG’s steering committee,” said Fahey. “I only use force-free training and pet care methods and am committed to advocating that people build relationships with their dogs based on trust, rather than pain, fear, or intimidation. I look forward to providing insight and guidance to help PPG promote our mutual commitment to force-free training and animal care. I am confident that a unified team will have a substantial impact on the pet care industry.”
Added Alsina: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been appointed to the steering committee of the PPG. Now I can take a much more active role in an organization in which I believe so strongly. To be a part of a growing group of people who believe in the science behind a force-free world for our animals is the ultimate professional accomplishment for me. I look forward to becoming a stronger advocate in my home state of New Jersey and worldwide for the well-being of our animals.”
PPG is currently the only totally force-free organization for pet professionals, and membership is growing rapidly. According to Fahey, “There has been a real shift in the training industry to use modern, force-free, science-based methods, but there is still a lot of work to do in educating the public about the pitfalls of using shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, and intimidation methods.”
“People generally do not want to use these methods on their dogs,” Fahey added. “They just do not know there is a better way to train. Once they find out there is a kinder, gentler way, you can see the relief in their faces.”
PPG continues to go from strength to strength, with membership numbers on the increase, more international chapters in the works, and the second PPG educational force-free summit, taking place in Tampa, Florida on November 8-11, 2016, following the resounding success of the inaugural event last year.
