Google introduces Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL

The markets traded mixed with the Dow rising 22 points to 22,664. Nasdaq lost 9 points to 6,522.


Google introduced its new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones at its annual event today. The Pixel 2 looks very similar to the Pixel while the display of the Pixel 2 XL expanded to 6 inches from the original Pixel's 5.5-inch display. Google also launched the Pixelbook laptop with a touch screen and 10 hour battery, Google Home Mini speaker and Google Home Max.


The European Union has ordered Amazon to pay $295 million in back taxes to Luxembourg. Regulators said that the online retailer has been paying an unfairly low special tax for the past 14 years. Both Amazon and Luxembourg said that they may appeal the ruling.


Samsung announced its HMD Odyssey high-end virtual reality headset which comes with built-in microphones and dual AMOLED displays. Users will experience an immersive 110-degree field of view supported by Microsoft's Mixed Reality platform. The device is priced at $499 and will begin shipping in November, just in time for the holiday shopping season.


In the broad market, declining issues outpaced advancers by a margin of nearly 6 to 5 on the NYSE and by nearly 9 to 8 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 added a point to 2,536. Bitcoin tumbled $61 to $4,203.
