The book authors, Daughen and Binzen, are well known journalists of the Philadelphia Enquirer. DeLaurentiis stated that she has always wanted to do the Rizzo story and was elated to find out Monet was already in the process of optioning the rights from Frank Binzen' daughter Jenny Cardoso and Joseph Daughen's daughter Joan Dadigan.
To some, Franck Rizzo, was a saint who made the "streets feel safe again," while others called him controversial for high-profile raids with the Black Panthers. Fellow cops referred to him as the "The General." He joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 1943 as an ordinary street cop, became the police commissioner in 1967, and served as mayor of Philadelphia from 1972 to 1980. His tough-on-crime tactics were questionable and he was known for his colorful, brash language and blunt policy reforms.
