The Colorado River provides water for people in seven states including Colorado and California. All seven states receive a pre-determined share of the water, based on the 1922 Colorado River Compact. Previously, Colorado allowed California to take some of its water when the need was not so great, but a proposed Colorado water plan could change that situation soon.
