StubHub Foundation Provides $250,000 Grant to 50 Fund to Extend Impact of Playmaker Program

Today, 50 Fund, the legacy fund of the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, announced an expansion of its Playmaker program through a $250,000 grant from the StubHub Foundation (a corporate advised fund of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation). An additional 20 Bay Area-based nonprofits supporting music, sports and arts programs for low-income kids will now be able to benefit, supplementing an original 50 organizations that received $10,000 grants.

Each of these new Playmaker grantees will receive $10,000, with the opportunity to receive more through StubHub’s “Fan’s Choice” voting section on StubHub.com/ultimate-pregame. Fans can vote for their favorite causes with the top five vote-getters receiving an additional $10,000 for a total of $20,000 in funding. Voting has started and will continue through February 5th.

“StubHub is all about providing fans with choice,” said Scott Cutler, President of StubHub. “Since the Big Game is in our backyard this year, we are happy to provide fans with the unique opportunity to decide how the foundation grant will be allocated to help support these amazing Bay Area nonprofits that are working every day to make positive change for youth in our communities. With the StubHub Foundation’s focus of expanding access and opportunity for at-risk youth through arts, music, and sports programs, it is a natural fit to partner with 50 Fund’s Playmaker program.”

With the goal of being the most giving Super Bowl ever, 50 Fund has already given more than $5 million in grants through its Game Changer and Playmaker grant programs as well as its two signature initiatives: The Re(a)d Zone (early literacy) and PLAY 60, Play On (fitness and play). More than 325,000 low-income children, youth, and young adults in the Bay Area have already benefitted from the services provided by the more than 100 nonprofits that have received 50 Fund grants to date.

“The 50 Fund Playmaker program has put a spotlight on organizations around the Bay Area and the real difference they are making in their individual communities, so we’re thrilled to continue this program beyond February,” says Kamba Tshionyi, 50 Fund’s Board Chair, “The StubHub Foundation’s grant and ‘Fan’s Choice’ program will help these new Playmaker grantees gain important visibility and attract new supporters.”
