Oracle buys Dyn

The markets extended its gains during the midday with the Dow climbing 67 points to 18,935. Nasdaq gaining 41 points 5,363.


Oracle has acquired Internet infrastructure provider Dyn for an undisclosed sum. Dyn monitors Internet traffic allowing businesses to control and optimize applications and cloud services. Dyn was the victim of a massive distributed denial of service attack on October 21 that took down sites such as Netflix, Twitter and Amazon.


Microsoft submitted concessions to the European Commission in order to win approval for the technology company's proposed $26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn. LinkedIn's rival professional social networks will continue to be allowed access to Microsoft's API software. Hardware makers will have the option to install LinkedIn or a competing social network.


Apple announced that it will replace the batteries of certain iPhone 6S models that may unexpectedly shut down. The phones were made between September 2015 to October 2015. Affected customers can have their phone batteries replaced at an authorized service provider or a local Apple store.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of more than 3 to 1 on the NYSE and by nearly 5 to 4 on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 climbed 14 points to 2,196. Bitcoin soared $10 to $736.
