Although the slowdown in personal-computer sales has had a domino effect on the Bay Area -- battering makers of desktop machines and microchips to suppliers of disk-drives and security software -- the region's economy hasn't been devastated, experts say, because the venerable PC isn't nearly as important here as it once was.<br />
