Stocks turned moderately negative again at midafternoon Tuesday, giving up gains that had put them in mixed territory. The Dow Jones industrial average lost 0.5%, the S&P 500 shed 0.4% and the Nasdaq dipped 0.1%. Volume continued to track up from Monday's levels. Some reports attributed the leg down around midafternoon to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid saying "little progress" had been made in recent talks to avert the fiscal cliff. EBay (EBAY)
