Wind River and WIN Enterprises Demonstrate Intelligent Network Platform at RSA Conference
By: Wind River Systems, Inc. via Business Wire News Releases
Posted on February 25, 2013 at 09:00 AM EST

RSA CONFERENCE – Wind River®, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, is providing Wind River Intelligent Network Platform for use on the latest WIN SoNIC (System-on-NIC) network acceleration board from WIN Enterprises. The WIN SoNIC board featuring Wind River software will be demonstrated in the Intel booth (#1439) at RSA Conference 2013, February 25 through March 1 in San Francisco.

Designed as an easy add-on for servers, WIN SoNIC is a small form factor, multi-purpose accelerator card that can offload CPU-intensive applications to immediately improve network performance. A highly flexible and multi-purpose card, WIN SONIC can be used in a variety of applications such as big data acceleration, cloud processing offload, VPN gateways, next generation firewalls, media gateways, or virtually any scenario that benefits from offloading CPU or network data heavy applications.

Unlike other accelerator cards limited to a single use, the WIN SoNIC can be easily repurposed at any time. Support for Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) by both the hardware and software enables the maximization of network system resources. WIN Enterprises is a leading designer and manufacturer of embedded controllers and platforms for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

“WIN SoNIC has the ability to preprocess and direct data to where it's needed and provides a common x86-based network platform that is easy to grow and maintain for demanding future networks,” said Chiman Patel, chief executive officer and chief technology officer at WIN Enterprises. “Having Wind River Intelligent Network Platform power the WIN SoNIC injects a powerful combination of high performance and network intelligence via deep packet inspection.”

“As the need for greater performance, scalability, and intelligence increases in the networking industry, companies will require flexible and powerful solutions to fit a diverse set of needs. WIN SoNIC with the Wind River software provides customers with a simple option to boost their capabilities and deliver a high quality of service,” said Paul Senyshyn, senior director of communication platforms at Wind River. “Together with WIN Enterprises, we are able to deliver network intelligence and acceleration technology breakthroughs that meet the demands of the quickly evolving networking market.”

WIN SoNIC with Wind River Intelligent Network Platform consolidates networking workloads through integrated data preprocessing, deep packet inspection, crypto-acceleration to enable faster, more efficient processing in the application, control and packet/content planes of the network. The board features the latest Intel® Platform for Communications Infrastructure, with integrated Intel QuickAssist Technology. Evaluations of the board are available now from WIN Enterprises.

Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is comprised of software that manages a consolidated control and data plane system, and software engines that provide capabilities such as fast packet acceleration and deep packet inspection. Configured with Wind River Linux, which is Yocto Project Compatible, and a comprehensive suite of development tools, the software platform can also support different combinations of the components, including alternative Linux distributions. Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is optimized for Intel® architecture, including the latest Intel® Platform for Communications Infrastructure, and is integrated with the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK).
