Dentist Santa Clarita Offers 5 Tips for Preventing Dry Mouth

Santa Clarita top cosmetic dentists want to alert the 90 million Americans suffering from chronic bad breath that the condition is more than just a nuisance to those with whom they speak.

Santa Clarita, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/25/2014 -- Most people know of common ways they can damage their teeth: eating sugary snacks, not brushing and flossing, not seeing the dentist regularly, smoking and using the teeth as tools.

But New Albany dental authority Dentist Santa Clarita wants to add another common things people do that is harming their teeth: suffering from dry mouth.

“Dry mouth can be brought on any number of ways,” Dr. Receveur said. “A lot of common medicines for things like acne, decongestants for colds and allergies, and asthma can do it.”

Some diseases and less common medical treatments can also lead to dry mouth, the New Albany dentist said.

“The problem is that the teeth need saliva to help wash away and neutralize some of the bacteria that we all have,” Dentist Santa Clarita said. “Without enough saliva, the bacteria can explode and ultimately cause gum disease.”

To help prevent that, Dentist Santa Clarita offers these five tips for preventing dry mouth:

1. Drink lots of water. Water can help stimulate saliva production as well as rinsing out the mouth.

2. Chew sugar-free gum. Gum with sugar in it is another way to increase the bacteria population in the mouth.

3. Sleep with a humidifier. The humid air can help moisten the mouth when the breathe.

4. Talk with the doctor about the medications. If nothing else works, dry mouth may be the side effect of a prescribed or over-the-counter medication. Talk to the doctor about substitute medications.

5. Visit a dentist. Dentist Valencia regularly sees patients with this problem and is happy to help find solutions.

“Dry mouth isn’t a problem unto itself,” Dentist Valencia said, “but it can lead to other problems if we don’t get it resolved.”

Dentist Valencia, who practices in New Albany, Ind., across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky., offers Louisville cosmetic dentistry services and general dentistry such as teeth cleanings, X-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, teeth whitening and veneers.

Dentist Valencia also is an expert in more advanced implant dentistry like All on Four dental implants, All on Six dental implants, mini dental implants, dental implants in one day, dental implants in one hour, Strickland facelift dentures, bone grafting and sinus lifts, all with IV sedation dentistry.

Dentist Valencia offers a lifetime warranty on dental implants and a five-year warranty on all cosmetic and prosthetic work.

Dentist Valencia, a New Albany native, has been the family dentist of choice for Southern Indiana and Louisville since 1981.

Dentist Valencia was born with a partial cleft palate that left him with a missing front tooth. As a child he “wore an awful removable partial.” As a teenager, Dentist Valencia received a permanent bridge, but his dentist destroyed one of his healthy, natural teeth in the process. These dental experiences helped drive him to find better dental solutions for his patients.

Dentist Valencia graduated from Indiana University Southeast with honors in chemistry, after which he earned his doctorate in Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.

Dentist Valencia has attended more than 5,000 hours of postgraduate training and even gone to Portugal to study with the best dentists in the world. He has been awarded numerous advanced certifications in Implant, Sedation, Comprehensive, Restorative and Aesthetic dentistry so he may provide the most current dental techniques to his Louisville and New Albany dental patients.

“Periodontitis is a serious disease,” commented Dr. Aalam. “Many patients ignore the early signs of gum disease, such as bleeding gums and mouth discomfort, and wait to visit a periodontist until they experience tooth loss and tooth decay. By this point, our treatment options are more limited. Patients often require dental implants to restore their smiles.”

According to Dr. Ben Javid DDS: Promenade Dentistry, whether patients suffer from chronic gum disease, which progresses slowly, or aggressive gum disease, which spreads more rapidly, early treatment is key to saving as much gum tissue, teeth, and bone as possible.

“If we catch gum disease early, we can treat it with root scaling and planing, a very simple and quick procedure,” said Dr. Krivitsky. “If we catch it too late, restoring oral health is a much more arduous process.”

At the CENTER for Periodontal and Implant Therapy, Dr. Ben Javid DDS: Promenade Dentistry offer a variety of cosmetic and restorative periodontal procedures, including gum depigmentation for dark gums, gum grafts, crown lengthening, wisdom tooth extraction, and dental implants. Brentwood patients with gum disease may also require pocket reduction surgery if they suffer from gum disease.

“There’s no need to be afraid of the dentist or periodontist,” said Dr. Ben Javid DDS: Promenade Dentistry. “We offer sedation therapy to keep our patients comfortable. If the gums are bleeding or receding, we should schedule an appointment immediately. The sooner the better.”
