Hong Kong Business Accountants Association is Founded

The First Professional Group for Business Accountants to Facilitate Exchanges between Business Accountants in Hong Kong and China

Hong Kong, Aug 12, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - Hong Kong Business Accountants Association ("the Association"), the first professional group dedicated to serving accountants who work in local commercial and public sectors (collectively referred to as business accountants), has announced its official founding today. With more than 130 corporate and individual members initially from different commercial and public organisations, the Association aims to promote the interests of business accountants and raise the concerns of members to related authorities. The Association will also facilitate exchanges through organising forums and professional development courses, thus cultivating more accounting talents for the business community in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's accounting profession offers a wealth of talent, with over 37,000 qualified accountants. Mr. Wilson Fung, Founding President of Hong Kong Business Accountants Association, said, "More than 80% of the accounting professionals are working in commercial or public organisations. However, these business accountants lack a dedicated platform in Hong Kong to advance their interests yet. In view of this, an enthusiastic group of industry professionals have joined forces to establish the Hong Kong Business Accountants Association. The Association has received strong support from business accountants and elicited encouraging responses since its founding in June this year."

Mr. Wilson Fung added, "The Mainland market is undoubtedly a key development focus of business accountants in Hong Kong. Understanding more about Mainland policies, trends, developments, the tax system and regulations can better prepare business accountants to capture the opportunities arising from accelerating economic growth in China. The Association has set four objectives, the most important of which is to build a communications bridge to facilitate exchanges between the business accountants and corporate management in Hong Kong and China whereby they can learn from each other, strengthen their understanding and broaden their vision. The Association also plans to promote itself through cooperation with Mainland enterprises to organise business activities. These activities include organising delegations to related government departments to better understand the latest business development direction of Mainland thereby assisting members and enterprises that the Association serves to develop in the Mainland market."

The Hong Kong Business Accountants Association plans to organise financial management forums and other activities regularly to promote the exchange of information within the industry. Following a visit to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong in July, the Association is now contacting corporations and public organisations to arrange for other visits and exchange activities. It also intends to organise tours and forums with corporate management representatives from Mainland China within this year. Through these regular activities, the Association hopes to strengthen the connection and cooperation between business accountants and corporate management in Hong Kong and China and create synergies across both areas.

Nurturing talent and cultivating professional expertise is another key objective of the Association. Accounting practices in Hong Kong and tax systems in the Mainland and overseas are continuously changing, thus local business accountants must closely monitor and keep abreast of the latest industry developments so as to enhance the competitiveness of corporations and public organisations in Hong Kong. To this end, the Association is cooperating with professional management and training bodies to arrange short-term strategic training courses which aim to enhance the expertise of local business accountants on corporate management and nurture leaders and talent for commercial and public organisations.

Mr. Ricky Li, Executive Vice-President, concluded, "The founding of the Association is the result of strong support for our philosophy, which attracts members from a wide range of sectors. Thus, on behalf of the Association, I would like to thank all of our council members and advisors for their contributions. Looking ahead, I hope all sectors can continue to support our development and offer us guidance and advice on how we can cultivate professional development and talent as well as facilitate meaningful exchanges of ideas. We believe that the establishment of the Association represents a new milestone in the evolution of the local business accounting profession. Members of the Association will resolve to join together to broaden the vision of the industry and contribute to the economic growth of Hong Kong and China."
