There is a strong belief that women are the key solution to various issues the world is faced with right now. Poverty, hunger, violence – there wouldn’t be so much of it if women were empowered. They are the foundation of every family and with strong, motivated women, the world will begin to change.
This is exactly why PCI is dedicating 2015 to the Women Empowered Initiative. Years of experience showed PCI that empowering women is the right path to improve life quality, and the most effective tool here are women who empower other women.
Discrimination and gender bias is a negative force that is affecting a significant percentage of communities in the world. Many countries are devoting resources to improve gender equity, but there are many battles to be won here. Oppression and violence against women is a daily occurrence in many countries of the world. And considering that female perseverance, hard work and influence make the foundation of a family, it’s important to work on empowering women.

PCI is focused on proactive change and this is exactly why they are bringing more focus on Women Empowered Initiative in 2015. This global effort is promoting social and economic empowerment of women via self-sustaining and self-managed savings groups. PCI is providing training to these groups in order for them to become a strong platform or social support. Through these savings group, women will become agents of societal and economic transformation.
PCI strongly believes that empowered women are the solution to many problems communities are troubled with. Poverty and poor health are reduced in the communities where women are active and taking initiative to solve the most basic problems their families have. The potential is incredible and when there is encouragement and financial support, this potential is turned into action and reality.
PCI already proved that empowering women brings desired results through their projects in Guatemala, Ethiopia and Botswana. The training provided there helped women be more aware of their potential, their role in the community and their ability to make good decisions concerning their economic and social lives.
The Women Empowered Initiative currently has 250,000 members, in 12 countries of the world. The goal is to expand this project to more countries, to reach new members and continue with trainings that proved to be successful.
