In Palm Beach County, in the State of Florida, courts are performing same-sex marriages but will not perform same-sex divorces. Matthew Brickman, divorce mediator and founder of iMediate Inc. addressed this dilemma for same-sex couples.
PRLog - April 6, 2015 - PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Same-sex marriage in Florida became legal on January 6, 2015, as a result of a temporary injunction issued by a U.S. district court in the case of Brenner v. Scott, in which the state's same-sex marriage ban had been found unconstitutional on August 21, 2014.
In a recent video posted on the iMediate Inc. YouTube Channel, founder Matthew Brickman discussed how restrictions on same-sex divorce has left some same-sex Florida couples in limbo.

Mr. Brickman opened with information regarding same-sex marriage by explaining, "I received a phone call from a law firm that was looking for a mediator to do a same-sex divorce. They scheduled it and the next day they called back and cancelled it. The attorney was informed by a family court judge that none of the 10 family court judges in the 15th Judicial Circuit (Palm Beach County) would be signing off on any same-sex divorces until the Supreme Court later this year."
To illustrate how these circumstances leave same sex married couples seeking a divorce in the state of Florida in "limbo", Mr. Brickman metaphorically used the pop culture reference, "It's a lot like Hotel California for our same sex marriage friends, they can now check in anytime they like but they cannot leave. Unfortunately this keeps them in a holding pattern."
